Understanding Tongue & Lip Ties
Did you know that over 10% of children are born with a tongue or lip tie?
Every child is born with small bands of tissue called frena that connect the lips to the gums and the tongue to the floor of the mouth. When these bands are too thick, short, or tight, they restrict normal movement:
- Tongue Ties: Restrict the tongue’s movement, preventing it from lifting properly to the roof of the mouth during feeding, swallowing, speech, and resting posture.
- Lip Ties: Tether the upper lip tightly to the upper gum, preventing the lip from flanging outward during nursing and causing potential oral hygiene or spacing challenges.
Signs & Symptoms Across Growth Stages
-
Infants & Moms: Latch difficulty, painful
nursing, clicking sounds, reflux, poor
weight gain, or gas. -
Toddlers & Children: Speech articulation
challenges, slow eating/food pocketing,
mouth breathing, snoring, or sleep
disturbances.

The LightScalpel® CO2 Laser
We proudly offer advanced LightScalpel® CO2 Laser technology for soft-tissue procedures. Unlike traditional methods, the CO2 laser uses precise light energy to gently release tissue without direct contact, offering minimal discomfort and quicker recovery.
- Less Invasive Through Precision: Pinpoint light targets only the restriction, preserving surrounding healthy tissue.
- Quicker Procedure: Takes only a few minutes from start to finish, significantly lessening time in the chair and easing anxiety for both you and the child.
- Minimal Bleeding & Swelling: Light energy seals blood vessels and nerve endings instantly on contact.
- Gentle Recovery & Faster Healing: Sealing nerve endings instantly minimizes post-op discomfort, allowing most infants to return to normal feeding right away.
